Biographical Note

Star of stage and movies as Shakespearean actor; he later became an Episcopal priest, changed his name to Brother David, and worked as a missionary to the Paiute Indians at Nixon and McDermitt, Nevada.


Scope and Content

Contains letters from Brother David's Indian parishioners describing events and people; printed materials about his film career and missionary life; a New Testament Bible on records; photographs from his two careers; costume drawings for a Shakespearean play; a ring used by John Gielgud in Richard II; a movie film on "Mission;" and unidentified mss leaves, letters, and indentures.


Collection is open for research. Materials must be used on-site; advance notice suggested. Access to parts of this collection may be restricted under provisions of state or federal law.
