Abstract:  Materials in this collection cover the domestic and international initiatives and projects of the Foresta Institute for Ocean and Mountain Studies from its inception in 1960 until it's eventual closure in the early 2000s. In addition to materials relating to the institute, there is also information on its founders, particularly Richard Gordon Miller and his research on the fishes of the Antarctic and his other interests. Materials include correspondence, reports, news clips, agendas, administrative files, speeches, publication drafts, travel itineraries, conference information, and research on environmental issues.

Abstract:  Melvin Brunetti served as a 9th Circuit Court of Appeals Judge beginning in 1985, and also acted as attorney to Paul Laxalt during Laxalt’s Nevada senatorial race in 1974. Brunetti practiced law in Carson City and Reno and served as President of the State Bar of Nevada in 1985. Collection includes materials from the 1974 Laxalt/Reid Senatorial race recount. Other materials are from his tenure as President of the State Bar of Nevada, including his involvement with Nevada School of Law at Old College.

Abstract:  Former Gonzaga President and New College founder Reverend John P. Leary founded Old College in Reno, Nevada in 1980. In 1981, the Old College Board of Trustees founded the Nevada School of Law at Old College, but it never gained accreditation and closed in 1988 due to chronic financial instability. Collection includes committee minutes and agendas, class rosters, class descriptions, financial records, self-study materials, and records of forgery committed by an employee.

Abstract:  Records cover the various initiatives, activities, and efforts of both the Public Resource Foundation (1982) and later Public Resource Associates (1988) to affect environmental change on the national and local levels through grassroots planning and lobbying. Materials date from 1919-2012 with the bulk of the material covering the mid- 1980s-2012. The major areas of emphasis in this collection are the work to reform the 1872 Mining Law, public lands management, and conservation and maintenance of the region's water resources mainly in Northern Nevada. The collection consists of correspondence, bureaucratic reports, legislative records, congressional bills and hearings, newsletters, information packets, conference materials, news clips, slides, photographs, and some audio/visual resources.

Title:  G. Edward Montgomery Washo Research Papers (2006-06)
Abstract:  G. Edward Montgomery was an Associate professor of Ethnology at Washington University in Saint Louis, Missouri. As a graduate student, Montgomery participated in a Field Training Program in Anthropology funded by the National Science Foundation and hosted by the University Of Nevada, Reno during the summer of 1965. Collection includes official documents regarding the National Science Foundation Field Training Program, extensive notes relating to Washo health and disease, as well as medicinal plant specimens. The final report, field reports, lists of diseases, flora, fauna, medicines and genealogies and publications relating to Washo Indians are included.
